He was the fourth-best guard in his own state coming out of high school. Twelve games in, he leads all freshmen in assist rate.
The scouting miss was about pace. Evaluators saw a player who did not beat people off the dribble and assumed he could not create. What he actually does is manipulate the second defender.
His turnover rate sits at 12.8 percent, remarkable for a freshman with the ball in his hands on 28 percent of possessions.
